Rescue Group Needs Homes For Dozens Of Dogs After Being Served With Eviction Notice

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A rescue group known as Tiny Loving Canines, or TLC, in Simi Valley takes in dogs many consider un-adoptable.

"We take not only the beautiful dogs. We take the old dogs, the toothless dogs, the one-eyed dogs, the three-legged dogs. It doesn't make any difference. If they need a home, they have one with us," said Kathryn Rutherford, of Tiny Loving Canine, Inc.

Now, the rescue is in need of goodwill. After a dispute with its landlord, TLC says it was served with an eviction notice last week.

They have until Friday to find more than 50 dogs foster or permanent homes.

"We don't want to turn them back into the shelter. We can't do that," Rutherford said.

But the rescue is running out of options and has lowered its adoption fee to $100.

The dogs are micro-chipped, spayed, and neutered. The price includes a visit to the veterinarian.

"Even if they don't want a dog that might not be suitable to their eyes, if they'll adopt with their heart, they're gonna find a wonderful dog," she said.

Sarah Porter has already adopted two dogs from TLC and decided to visit Wednesday to get another.

"Honestly, it breaks my heart. I would take them all home today if I could," she said.

Volunteers say the dogs at the shelter have an attitude for gratitude.

"They know when they are adopted because they remember where they've been and what they've been through," Rutherford said. "When they get a good home, they are just so happy."

TLC has been desperately looking for a new space to rent but it can be difficult to find a landlord who will rent to a rescue.

They expect it could take several months to find a new place. They have to be out by Sunday.
