Complete List Of Tony Winners, Nominees

NEW YORK (CBSLA.com) — "The show must go on" is an old show business adage.

No where was that more evident than in New York Sunday evening, where the theater community, comprised of many LGBT people, stopped to honor achievements on state at the 70th annual Tony Awards while they also took time to pay homage to victims of the worse mass shooting in US history.

As expected, the smash hip-hop musical "Hamilton" won just about everything -- offic1ally 11 Tonys, one shy of the record-12 won by "The Producers."

The diverse "Hamilton" was nominated for 18 Tonys, and 11 wins should mean getting a ticket (the impossible dream in New York) will become even harder. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama introduced the play via videotape.

The Tonys were broadcast by CBS.

After the cast of "Hamilton" made fun of him for being selected host of the Tonys for having scant theater cred, "Late, Late Show" host James Corden dedicated the night to the diversity of Broadway.(Corden did win a Best Actor in a Play Tony in 2012 for the show "One man, Two Guvnors.")

Before the night began, Corden reminded the audience that love will always conquer hate.

"Hate will never win. Together we have to make sure of that," he said, "Tonight's show stands as a symbol and a celebration of that principle."

On the diversity score (a large number of the nominees were people of color), Corden quipped, "Think of this show like the Oscars -- but with diversity."

The winners in bold.
