Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges In Hammer Attack On Mother
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say a 27-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge after attacking his mother with a hammer as she slept in her bed.
Sheriff's officials said the 54-year-old victim was hospitalized in critical condition following the attack early Wednesday at a residence in East Los Angeles. Her name was not released.
Investigators say the attack woke others in the home who tried to restrain Gustavo Gonzalez, and then called police.
Gonzalez was held on more than $1 million bail. He was arrested after being treated at a hospital for injuries sustained during an altercation with deputies.
Some deputies suffered minor injuries before subduing Gonzalez and taking him into custody, sheriff's officials said.
Detectives are investigating a possible motive.
