Hot, Dry Weather Continues As Heat Wave Grips Southern California

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Scorching temperatures will grip the Southland marking the first heat wave of the summer season, meteorologists said Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, hot and dry conditions are expected to last through Saturday.

State safety regulators have urged employers to protect their outdoor workers from heat illness this week.

The humidity level will drop to between 6 and 12 percent in the interior valleys and some mountain areas by Friday.

Gusty winds may cause elevated fire danger across the Southland.

Along the coast, a high surf advisory will remain in effect until 10:00 p.m. tonight with expected surf of 4 to 7 feet and sets of up to 9 feet in some areas.

The combination of high surf and high tides could generate minor beach erosion and minor flooding of harbor walkways.

Temperatures will generally be several degrees higher Friday and Saturday.

CBS2's Amber Lee (@AmberLeeNews)  reported from a particularly warm Inland Empire Thursday where temperatures hit triple digits.

Juan Fitzgerald of Victorville said it felt like Summer showed up without any warning.

"I mean, last week it was windy," he said, "and now it's too hot. It's terrible."
