Camera Catches Bullets Flying Inside Downtown Riverside Parking Garage

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) —  An argument in downtown Riverside exploded into gunfire with bullets flying and people ducking for cover in a scene all caught on camera.

The video showed the moments before an argument boiled over between two groups in different cars in a parking garage near the Mission Inn late Saturday night. The back-and-forth heated up as one of the drivers began to pull away.

That was when bullets started flying. People screamed and ran for cover.

Fortunately, no one was hit. But one of the windows in the victims' car was shot out. Whoever fired the shots got away.

A witness who did not want be identified described the scene. "I ducked down. I hugged one of the yellow concrete poles and propped up against the wall."

Now, there is growing concern about safety in downtown Riverside. "In the day time when we're in a group, it's not so bad. At nighttime if I'm here by myself at night, portray confidence, have my keys out. But try not to walk by yourselves in the night," Riverside resident Tanya Severns said.

Riverside police are trying to find out who fired the shots and whether it was gang violence.

"It's freaky that it got to that point, when it wasn't necessary," another woman said.
