Secrets For Summer Travels

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — If you are planning a summer trip, when and how you book your vacation can save you some money.

George Hobica from Airfarewatchdog.com said to expect deals out of Los Angeles to places including Dublin, Tokyo and Sydney.

"L.A. is magic because there are so many airlines serving so many destinations," he said. "Finally, we're seeing a dividend from the low-fuel prices."

If you plan to go to Europe, "I always tell people if Amsterdam is too expensive, Paris too expensive, look at Frankfurt. Look even at Copenhagen and then have a lovely train ride to where you really want to go," Hobica explained.

Flying out on one airline and coming back on another can be cost-efficient. He also suggested flying on a Tuesday or Wednesday and consider alternate airports.

If you do not wish to fly, how about a summer cruise? "Some of the cruises are so cheap, like $50 a day on Carnival and other line," the travel expert added.

If you opt to drive to get away, Hobica suggested places like Death Valley, Palm Springs and Tucson.

Also check for bargains on sites like Living Social, Groupon or Tingo, which automatically rebooks if your hotel offers a lower rate.
