Dodgers Pitcher Ravin Suspended For PED Use

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Los Angeles Dodgers right-hand pitcher Josh Ravin was suspended 80 games Monday after failing a drug test.

Ravin reportedly tested positive for a PED (performance enhancing drug.)

The Los Angeles Dodgers issued the following statement:

"We are disappointed to hear that Josh has violated Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The Dodgers fully support MLB's policy toward eliminating performance enhancing substances from the sport and, as per the Joint Drug Program, we will have no further comment on this suspension."

Ravin, a native of West Hills, had already been on the Dodgers' 60-day disabled list with a broken left forearm.

Last year, in nine relief appearances he was 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA.

The Associated Press estimated Ravin would lose about $225,000 of his $515,000 salary due to the suspension.

A second suspension for PED use would last an entire season or 162-games. A third suspension merits a life-time ban from the game.

In the past ten days, baseball has also announced suspensions for Blue Jays first baseman Chris Colabello and Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, a former Dodger.

Former New York Mets reliever Jenry Mejia was banned from baseball, for life, when he tested positive for steroids for a third time in February 2016. (He can file for reinstatement but has to sit out at least two years before baseball will even consider hearing his case.)
