2 Dozen Treated After Pepper Spray Is Released Inside Theater During Showing Of 'Barber Shop'

REDLANDS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two dozen people were treated at the scene after pepper spray was released inside a theater in Redlands.

Patrons were forced to evacuate theater number 9 Saturday night at the Harkins Theater on San Bernardino Avenue during a showing of "Barber Shop: The Next Cut," according to police.

When police arrived on scene after receiving emergency calls about 10:15 p.m., they searched the theater but were unable to locate the source of the pepper spray.

Paramedics and firefighters were also called to the scene, triaging and treating patients at the scene for symptoms.

Two people who had sustained irritated eyes and breathing difficulties were taken to the hospital for further treatment, police said.

"Firefighters used fans to clear the remaining pepper spray from the theater," said police, adding that exposure was limited to a single theater in the multiplex.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with more information was asked to call Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681, ext. 1.
