Detroit Tigers Fan Catches 5 Foul Balls In 1 Game, Gives Them All To Kids

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — A 39-year-old Detroit Tigers fan caught five foul balls in the course of a game on Monday.

During the Tigers' 7-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bill Dugan caught three easy pop flies over the backstop and also snared two ricochets off the facing of the press box.

The odds of catching five balls in one game are astronomical. There was an announced crowd of 26,271 at the chilly weekday afternoon game.

But Dugan's seats behind home plate at Comerica Park are ideally located to catch balls from batters fighting off Tigers ace Justin Verlander's pitches.

Dugan shares season tickets with a friend and said he's caught more than 200 balls during games and batting practice. He said his previous single-game record was four in 2002.

Dugan gave all the balls to nearby kids, drawing by far the biggest cheers of the game. He also posed for selfies with impressed fans.
