Starbucks Customer Says Message On His Cup 'Struck A Nerve'

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (CBSLA.com) — A Starbucks customer in Florida says he was offended by what was written on his Grande cup of white mocha.

The man said the message, which said "Diabetes, here I come," hit home for him because his two sisters have Type 1 diabetes.

"Seeing it and knowing the struggles my sisters went through in the third and fourth grade, it definitely struck a nerve," the man said.

The man wrote a message on the same cup for the barista, which said: "My sisters are diabetic, so ... not funny!"

The store manager told a news publication they do not condone those kinds of messages for customers.

"We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and were disappointed to learn of this incident," a Starbucks spokesperson said in a statement issued to CBS Los Angeles. "We've since connected directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners (employees) to ensure this does not happen again."
