Deadly Pasadena Crash Sends Car Into Light Pole

PASADENA (CBSLA.com/AP) — Two people were killed and two others injured Wednesday when a Ford Mustang and an SUV collided in Pasadena, authorities said.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. at Lake Avenue and East Villa Street, Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department said.

Police say the 2003 Mustang, which crashed into a utility pole after colliding with the SUV, was occupied by three men and a teenage boy, all Pasadena residents. The Mustang was nearly cut in half by the pole, which was anchored in six feet of concrete.

The 23-year-old driver died at a hospital. The front passenger, a 17-year-old boy, died at the scene. The driver was identified by a family member at the scene as Ronaldo Ramirez, and the passenger was identified as Asuelo Ramirez.

Two rear-seat passengers, ages 22 and 27, were hospitalized with moderate injuries.

A 46-year-old Los Angeles woman who was driving a 2006 Kia Sorrento SUV suffered a minor injury.

Investigators say excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call police at (626) 744-7159.
