Heightened Security Continues In LA In Wake Of Brussels Terror Attacks

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Security detail remained on high alert Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport and Metro stations in wake of the terror attacks that took place in Brussels.

No credible threats have been made against LAX. However, airport police have increased their visual presence at the airport as a precautionary measure.

Transportation Security Administration will also add personnel within airports across the country, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said.

Security at Union Station, Rosa Parks station and the Seventh Street/Metro Center station has been beefed up with assistance from armed guards and bomb-sniffing dogs.

Metro officials have asked the public to be aware of their surroundings at transportation centers.

Amtrak officials have also added safety personnel to rail lines as a precautionary measure.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the agency's Special Operations Division resources are "on standby and are prepared to respond anywhere in the region should the need arise."

LAPD officers have also been deployed to a variety of high-profile locations that tend to be gathering points for large crowds, including The Grove shopping center, synagogues, the Beverly Center and Hollywood & Highland.

On Tuesday morning, bombings in Brussels, Belgium killed at least 31 people and wounded 250 others.

Two of the suicide bombers who targeted the city's airport and subway system have been identified as Belgian brothers Khalid and Brahim Bakraoui, according to CBS News. There are conflicting reports about the arrest of another man, who authorities initially thought was the suspected ISIS bomb-maker behind the attacks.

Authorities in Brussels say the third suspect remains at large.

The investigation is ongoing.
