Search Underway For Hit-And-Run Driver In Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run crash that injured two people and wrecked two cars in Garden Grove.

A white Chevy Silverado was speeding on Magnolia Street around 11:30 when it sideswiped one car before hitting a red Kia and an SUV parked on the street, causing the Kia to flip on its side, said Sgt. Richard Burillo of the Garden Grove Police Department.

The truck kept going until it collided with a tree and an iron gate outside an apartment complex.

Yesenia Sacazontow, 15, was unloading groceries from the Kia while her father was still in the car. The impact of the collision threw the girl into the street while her dad became trapped inside the Kia.

The teen started screaming for help. "I was really in pain. I didn't really care about I was in pain. I just wanted my dad to get out of it (the car)," she said.

Sacazontow said the driver got out of the Chevy, tried to upright their Kia but then took off running.

The girl suffered a sprained arm. Firefighters cut the windshield to get her dad out of the car. Amazingly, he suffered only a broken thumb.

The father called the fact that he and his daughter are still alive a miracle and forgave the truck driver who caused the crash. "He says he doesn't feel hatred or bitterness but God have mercy on him and take care of his family," his son Luis Zacatzontetl said.

If you have witnessed the crash or know anything about it, call Garden Grove police.
