Lawsuit Filed In LAPD Venice Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The mother of an unarmed man fatally shot by a Los Angeles police officer last year is suing the city, police chief and the officers involved.

The lawsuits alleging wrongful death and excessive force were filed Tuesday in local and federal courts.

The lawsuits seek unspecified damages for the killing of 29-year-old Brendon Glenn during a May confrontation in the Venice area.

Police Chief Charlie Beck has recommended that the officer who shot Glenn twice in the back be criminally charged. The district attorney's office hasn't decided whether to file charges.

Beck's recommendation came after investigators concluded Glenn was on his stomach trying to push himself up when he was shot, and he wasn't trying to take an officer's gun.

The city attorney's office declined to comment on the litigation.
