Suspect Arrested In Reported Sexual Assault On UCLA Campus

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles man has been arrested in connection with a reported sexual assault on campus at UCLA.

Kvon Devonte Harris, 21, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of rape as well as forgery and check fraud, according to UCLA police.

Harris - who police say was known to frequent establishments near UCLA - was spotted at a coffee shop at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the 10900 block of Weyburn Avenue in Westwood Village and taken into custody without incident, officials said.

He was later transported to the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles and was being held on bail of $140,000.

A female student told police she was sexually assaulted on the night of Jan. 28 by a suspect who escorted her from a house party in Westwood to her campus residence hall.

The student told police that the suspect later contacted her, which allowed police to identify Harris, who was already being sought in connection with the fraud case, authorities said.

"This arrest reflects the exemplary work of our officers and detectives, and our partnership with the members of the campus community to help ensure safety," said UCLA Police Chief James Herren.

UCLA police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at (310) 825-1491.
