UCLA Signs Young Boy Who's Battled Brain Tumor, Suffered Major Stroke

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — UCLA has announced the signing of a 5-star recruit named Cade Spinello, according to Patrick Girardi, the director of player personnel for the university.

"UCLA Football is incredibly excited to announce the official signing of 5 star recruit Cade Spinello," Girardi said via Twitter.

Cade recently turned 10 and is from Ladera Ranch.

"By accepting this offer from UCLA Football," the school wrote in a letter, "you are expected to root for the Bruins and train hard!"

"We will be making sure that you are holding up your end of the deal and that you are UCLA's biggest supporter," the school wrote. "We wish you nothing but the best in your bright future."

The young recruit has battled a brain tumor and also suffered a major stroke, his family wrote on CaringBridge.org.

"Thank you to Coach Mora, the entire Bruin staff, Scout.com, as well as to the Jessie Rees Foundation for making this kid feel like a star," an update posted to a Facebook page for Cade indicated.
