Kids In Van Nuys Walk In Solidarity, Embrace Most Basic Tenet: Kindness

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Children walked in solidarity Wednesday to share and embrace the most basic and perhaps most important human quality: kindness.

The kids from Gault Street Elementary in Van Nuys spread the word as part of a growing movement called the Great Kindness Walk, which aims to build the foundation for a better tomorrow.

"I like it that we're going to spread kindness and that we're having a parade because of kindness," said Evelyn Palomeque, a student.

Brad Albion, the school principal, says the walk is just another way to keep the message at the forefront and to give his students a foundation for life.

"When we turn on the evening news, we see that there is a lot of things going on in the world that we would rather not see and we really want to teach our children to grow up to be adults that enter the world able to treat people with kindness and respect and tolerance," Albion said.

Dignity Health Northridge Hospital helped put on the event.

"We work with 22 schools to do this and this is just one of 22 schools that are participating and doing kind acts," said Joni Novosel of Dignity Health.

Organizers and the kids hope the nationwide campaign will go viral.
