Diesel-Gas Mix-Up At Ontario Station Is Costing Some Customers Hundreds Of Dollars

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) —  A mistake at an Ontario gas station had dozens of customers driving to their auto mechanics to have their vehicles repaired. A delivery driver apparently pumped the wrong types of fuel into the tanks.

The mistake was made at Anthem Oil at 2963 S. Archibald Ave. The manager said the fuel driver mixed diesel with regular gas and vice versa.

Gas station manager Dinesh Ram said it was a delivery error by their supplier --Supreme Oil based in San Diego. "We noticed after two customers complained. Then we shut down the pumps." Ram said about 30 drivers were affected Thursday morning.

Annette Wren is among them. She thought she was buying regular gas when she was actually getting diesel. Wren said her 2000 GMC Yukon Denali was making funny sounds when she drove home from work. She said it sounded like "If someone had a wrench and they were smashing it around in my engine."

She immediately took her SUV to a mechanic. "When they took the fuel pump out, it smelled really funny."

The gas station emptied the tanks, refilled them with the proper fuel and reopened the pumps. Ram said he will refund the affected customers money and is working with the fuel supplier to repair any vehicles that may have been damaged by the mistake.

Wren said she paid $494.99 to have her fuel pump fixed and hopes she gets the amount reimbursed.

CBS2/KCAL9's Amy Johnson reached out to Supreme Oil, which declined to comment.
