Police: Man Surrenders After Stabbing Wife With Meat Cleaver In Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stabbing his wife several times with a large meat cleaver, police said.
Thang Van Nguyen, 46, of Garden Grove, was detained at about 6:46 a.m. outside the headquarters of the Garden Grove Fire Department, where he told authorities he wanted to turn himself in for murdering his wife, Garden Grove police officials said.
When he took officers to his home in the 12700 block of Flower Street, his 44-year-old wife Huong Nguyen was found conscious, but with several stab wounds from a large meat cleaver, officials said.
Huong Nguyen was taken to UCI Medical Center, where she was placed into an induced coma and remains in critical condition.
The stabbing was apparently due to the couple having marital problems, Garden Grove police Lt. Bob Bogue said.
Police say a 7-year-old child witnessed the stabbing. A 19-year-old child was home, but did not see what happened. Both children are with their uncle, Bogue said.
