Volunteers Give Back To Scoutmaster Who Suffers Stroke

SAN CLEMENTE (CBSLA.com) — Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is supposed to be a day of service. A small army of volunteers in San Clemente did just that for a beloved Scoutmaster who suffered a stroke.

Members of San Clemente's local churches and friends of Chuck Bolt spent part of the holiday weekend giving back to the retired marine who has done so munch for his community.

The volunteers gave Bolt's house a face-lift. They painted his house, pruned his yard and did other chores.

"I knew that there would be people here. I just didn't expect the awesomeness of how many have come," said Bolt's wife, Lori.

After spending five weeks in the hospital, Bolt came home Sunday to a pleasant surprise. The Scoutmaster was literally speechless and became emotional when he saw the new look on his home.

Bolt guided 91 Eagles Scouts over the years. Some of those Eagle Scouts were among the volunteers who worked on his house.

Bolt said he was deeply grateful for the love from friends of strangers. "I've always said that the most honorable service you can have is the service you do for somebody else," he said. "Not knowing that eventually at some point, it'd come around and come to my door step. It's the little things that really touch your heart."

Bolt was the primary income earner as a painter/contractor. But the military veteran is unable to work now because of his illness.

His friends have set up a GoFundMe account. If you would like to help Bolt, click here.
