More Rain Expected For The Next Few Days

So, storm No. 2 definitely lived up to the hype. We'll have time to pore over the totals, but here are a few highlights.

SANTA ANITA DAM - 3.35

SIERRA MADRE - 2.64

ALHAMBRA - 2.46

DOWNTOWN LA - 1.39

LYTLE CREEK - 3.96

LAKE ARROWHEAD - 2.86

MURRIETA 2.65

BELL CANYON - 1.87

Now it's time to get ready for storm No. 3 Wednesday.  Timing wise, it will be very similar to Tuesday's storm. Look for the clouds to build before sunrise. Light showers should start later morning, then the heavy rain kicks in again through the middle of the day. So the arrival may be a couple of hours later than Tuesday. The character of the system will be a little different. The front will pass through the middle of the day at the bottom of an elongated trough. That's going to translate into a quick hit of heavy rain, then instead of mother nature turning off the faucet like she did Tuesday, it will be just left on. We'll continue to see scattered showers into Thursday behind the main frontal passage. Rainfall totals will be similar to Tuesday's, in the ballpark of 1 to 2 inches. There are some good dynamics with storm No. 3 as well.  In fact, Thursday morning there is a pretty vigorous area of vorticity moving over the outer waters. This could spark some thunderstorms or waterspouts. The rain will linger Thursday and Friday, but it will be scattered in nature. There are no fronts pushing the moisture; it's just an open westerly flow. The models are even hinting at some moisture on Saturday. By Sunday, however, a ridge pops up and that should dry things out. We'll also see some warming. So if you've got soccer games on Sunday if the fields aren't flooded out, you still have practice. The next rain after that will be Thursday next week.
