21-Year-Old Lyft Driver Killed By Suspected DUI Driver In Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a Lyft driver was struck and killed on New Year's Day by a suspected drunken driver.

Police said in a news release that the 21-year-old motorist employed by Lyft was in a black 2015 Ford Fusion that was broadsided by a red 2003 Infiniti coupe.

Just before 3 a.m. Friday, police and first responders were dispatched to the crash site at 120th and Doty Avenue.

Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced the Lyft driver dead at the scene.

The Lyft driver has been identified as  21-year old Thor Anderson.

A media contact for Lyft said their records show that the driver was en route to pick up a Lyft passenger when the crash happened.

The company released a statement to CBS Los Angeles, which said in part:

"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic accident."

The statement went on to express that Anderson was an important member of the Lyft community.

Police said the driver in the Infiniti, identified as Arturo Martinez Conchas, 21, of Hawthorne, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter, and possession of illegal drugs.

Anderson's aunt set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the family and Anderson's younger siblings.

Conchas was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
