Passengers Face Flight Delays, Long Security Lines Amid Busiest Day For Holiday Travel At LAX
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More than 230,000 passengers are expected to travel through Los Angeles International Airport today, officials said Wednesday.
According to airport police, today will be the busiest day for holiday travel at LAX.
CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported security lines stretched around the terminal early this morning as passengers waited to head out for the new year.
Online travel experts attribute the spike in passengers due to lower air fares being offered nationwide and added international carriers.
Authorities advised the public to arrive to the airport early and to take public transportation if possible.
Meanwhile, winter storms took a toll on holiday travel earlier this week. Nearly 900 flights were canceled nationwide as a result of the wild weather.
Some delays have carried into this morning for passengers traveling the the northeast area, including United flights to New York and Boston.
The lightest travel days are expected to take place on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
In total, a record of 3.5 million passengers will travel through the airport over the course of the holiday stretch.
