Ex-Wife Of Late Stone Temple Pilots Singer Scott Weiland Shares Emotional Essay

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "December 3rd, 2015 is not the day Scott Weiland died. It is the official day the public will use to mourn him," said the ex-wife of the late Stone Temple Pilots singer.

Mary Forsberg Weiland went on to explain that, for her teenage kids, Dec. 3 represents the day they lost hope.

The pair has a son and daughter, ages 15 and 13.

"Like so many other kids, they lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on December 3rd was hope," she explained in a letter published on RollingStone.com.

Although acknowledging his talents, she went on to describe Weiland as a man who had "paranoid fits."

"In reality, what [the public] didn't want to acknowledge was a paranoid man who couldn't remember his own lyrics and who was only photographed with his children a handful of times in 15 years of fatherhood," she said.

Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota before a concert on Dec. 3. He had just turned 48. His battle with drug addiction was well-known. No cause of death has been released.

"Let's choose to make this the first time we don't glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don't have to come with it," she added.

Weiland was also lead singer of the group Velvet Revolver from 2003-2008.
