6 People Hurt In Van Nuys After DUI Suspect Crashes Into 3 Cars

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com)  —  Six people were injured Saturday afternoon in a crash involving four cars in Van Nuys.

Officials said one of the drivers involved had police on his tail -- he was a DUI suspect witnesses said was driving recklessly.

The crash occurred in the 6000 block of Sepulveda.

CBS2's Brittney Hopper reported from the scene.

Authorities said they began following a driver in a white car because they had reports he was driving recklessly. It wasn't technically a chase, Hopper was told, "because traffic was so heavy."

Despite the heavy traffic conditions, officials said the man was doing 60 mph down Sepulveda Boulevard.

They said when the man tried to pass traffic on the wrong side of the road, he hit three cars.

Six people -- including the suspect -- were taken to the hospital. All are expected to be okay, Hopper reported.

No pedestrians were injured.

The suspect has been charged with DUI, Hopper said.
