Woman, Dog Rescued From Mountain After Attempt To Save Her Own Pooch Goes Awry

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Like most dog owners, Ashley Engle will go to great lengths for her dog.

Engle was put to the test on Friday, when her Rodesian Ridgeback named Luna got spooked during their morning walk.

"I would do anything for her. She's my buddy," Engle said of Luna.

Engle's dog Luna ran off after being spooked, and when Engle ran after her, the dog was nowhere in sight.

"We were looking for her most of the day," Engle said.

Engle posted a flyer near her Park Newport apartment, and walked up and down the Back Bay path.

Feeling defeated, Engle almost gave up, but earlier Friday night, decided to try one more time.

"There was a lady that saw her kind of go into the certain area of brush," Engle said.

"I just heard this little bark and looked up and she [Luna] was up on the mountain," she added.

Then, Engle started to climb.

"I was so overwhelmed that I found her, once I was there, I realized what I'd done," Engle said.

That's when her family, who was waiting on the bike path below, called 911.

"I was stuck and I couldn't go down because it was straight down and I wasn't in a place to go up," Engle said.

Firefighters arrived and pulled Engle and her dog Luna to safety, leaving Engle feeling both embarassed and grateful.

"I'm just really happy I found Luna, my dog" she said.
