Officials Advise Craigslists Users To Set Up Exchanges In Police Department Parking Lot

FONTANA (AP) — Police in a Southern California city are recommending a safe meeting place for online buyers and sellers: the department's own parking lot.

The Fontana Police Department made the recommendation Wednesday following two separate robberies.

The latest one happened at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in a grocery store parking lot. Police say a man selling his phone on Craigslist met up with a would-be buyer. But when the buyer walked up, police say he lifted his shirt to show a gun, stole the phone and fled.

The other robbery happened at 2 p.m. Sunday, when police say a man selling a Segway on Craigslist met up with a man who had expressed interest. When they met, the would-be buyer punched the seller in the face, stole the Segway and fled.
