Eagle Rock Residents Taking Action Over 'Pillarhenge' In Their Neighborhood

EAGLE ROCK (CBSLA.com) – Residents in an Eagle Rock neighborhood upset over some pillars they call an eyesore are taking matters into their own hands.

The tall, concrete pillars stretch an entire block along Colorado Boulevard between Holbrook and Linda Rosa Streets. They have stood for eight years near dozens of homes after developers abandoned the mixed-use project during the recession.

After several years of unsuccessfully trying to remove the so-called Pillarhenge, Kevin Grace said he and his fed-up neighbors are taking matters control.

He recently created the Facebook page, Friends of Pillarhenge Park, which has more than 600 supporters.

There's also a petition. The goal is to force the property owners, who live in Northern California, to do something with the abandoned property.

"We're sick of this. Let's move forward. That's really all we want," Grace said.

The social media tactic appears to be working. The property owners recently removed trash and cleaned graffiti off the concrete. The Facebook group also has a meeting planned with city officials.

"Anything would be better than this. I mean, they don't even have to rebuild. Just plant something," said neighbor Courtney Cook. "Stonehenge is a great thing. This isn't," she laughed.

Unlike the famous landmark in England, neighbors said the Pillarhenge has got to go.

A fence with no trespassing signs now surrounds Pillarhenge. Neighbors said they won't stop complaining until it's gone for good.
