Car Drives Off Riverside Freeway Overpass, Frightening Those Below

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A driver exiting the 91 Freeway at Spruce Street in Riverside early on Sunday morning neglected to turn left or right, and instead drove straight off the overpass and crashed onto a street below.

Authorities in Riverside responded to the incident at about 2:20 a.m., finding that after exiting the freeway, the sedan appeared to have crashed through a fence and landed on its roof about 20 feet below, near a homeless encampment.

None of the people in the encampment appeared to be injured. The driver of the vehicle was also not believed to be seriously hurt, although he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Authorities on Sunday were investigating the cause of the crash. Alcohol may have played a role, they said.
