'The Danish Girl' Inspired By True-Life Story Of Transgender Pioneer, Artist Lili Elbe

The trailer for "The Danish Girl" has only been online for a day and it's already got more than one million views on YouTube.

The love story is inspired by the lives of artists Einar and Gerda Wegener, played by British actor Eddie Redmayne, winner of this year's "Best Actor" Academy Award for "The Theory of Everything," and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who most recently appeared in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

Their marriage reaches a turning point when Einar "begins a groundbreaking journey to become one of the world's first transgender women, Lili Elbe."

"The fact is, I believe that I am a woman," Redmayne's character says to his on-screen wife.

She looks at him and says assuredly, "And I believe it, too."

It's clear this movie will tug at your heartstrings, especially when Elbe tells Wegener: "I love you because you're the only person who made sense of me - who made me possible."

"The Danish Girl" will be released this fall by Focus Features. For more information visit "The Danish Girl" online.
