DJ Found Beaten Into Coma At Hollywood Dies

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Police say a nightclub disc jockey beaten into a coma during a fight last weekend at a Hollywood hot spot has died.

Lt. Michael Ling said Tuesday that the death of Jose Silva-Nieves, known as DJ Steez, is being investigated as a possible homicide.

Silva-Nieves, 20, was found unconscious on the floor of the club Cashmere on Hollywood Boulevard following a brawl early Saturday.

On Sunday he was declared brain-dead at a hospital.

A GoFundMe page was established to benefit the family and has raised more than $4,000 by midday Tuesday.

"Everyone who knew Jose knows he was such a great person," according to the page. "He had a heart of gold and man was he funny. Most importantly, he was a man who was admired by many. He strived for what he loved. He worked hard to get where he was and continued to work hard to become the greatest. Music was everything to him."

Anyone with information on the case can call LAPD's West Bureau homicide detectives at (213) 382-9470.
