Downtown High-Rise Sustains Significant Structural Damage Following Explosion
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A high-rise in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night sustained significant structural damage following an explosion of a generator on the ground floor.
The building is located at 811 W. Wilshire Boulevard, at Flower.
Five adults were also reported to have non-life threatening injuries, authorities said. The most serious injuries included smoke inhalation and back pain. Both of those patients were transported to a hospital, according to a LAFD alert.
Brian Humphrey with the Los Angeles Fire Department said the explosion caused "significant" damage to the 19-story building.
Officials said the building was occupied by commercial residents.
The fire was quickly put out.
The explosion also did damage to water pipes and created a "significant" water issue in the the subterranean level.
