Public Health Officials Warn Against Swimming, Surfing Near Storm Drains
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Public health officials warned swimmers Tuesday against swimming in the ocean near storm drains, creeks and river after the recent rain storms.
The county Department of Public Health said swimmers should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in ocean waters around discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers due to bacteria, debris, trash and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas that wash into the sea through these outlets.
The rain advisory, which will remain in effect until at least 6 p.m. Wednesday, applies only to ocean areas near discharge sites, but other areas are safe for swimming and surfing.
