House Of Blues Plans For Nearly 200 Layoffs At WeHo Location

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Nearly 200 employees at the legendary House of Blues in West Hollywood face layoffs as the venue gets set to shut its doors later this summer, according to reports.

A notice filed with the California Employment Development Department (EDD) stated the Sunset Boulevard location will close on Aug. 7, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Live Nation, which owns the House of Blues, will lay off 197 bartenders, servers, sales people, stage hands and other employees starting by the end of July, the Journal reported.

The property is being redeveloped as a mixed-use condo, hotel and entertainment facility, company officials said.

The site is one of a dozen House of Blues venues around the U.S. operated by Live Nation, including one at Disneyland in Anaheim.

Owners announced last summer the venue is slated to be demolished and replaced by a luxury mixed-use high-rise with an entertainment facility.

Live Nation had initially said the West Hollywood site would operate for two years after first announcing the closure in August, the Journal reported.
