Suspect In Violent Crime Spree Booked For Attempted Murder

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected in a 72-hour crime spree faces charges Thursday of attempted murder.

Jeffery Miles, 55, of Los Angeles, was taken into custody Wednesday night during a traffic stop.

Police say Miles was behind a crime spree that included three armed robberies and two shootings between Monday and Wednesday night, when he allegedly robbed then shot a clerk at an Arco gas station on Crenshaw Boulevard.

Miles is also suspect of robbing, then shooting another clerk at a Big Lots in South Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon.

"He shot two clerks, right there, point blank, right after they gave him the money," police said.

Both clerks are in stable condition.

Detectives say they are confident Miles is the man captured on surveillance video at each crime.

"That's really the key to catching him, we have that surveillance in hand, we gave that to the officers, the metropolitan officers who were assigned to that area," police said.

At three of the crime scenes, surveillance video captured a silver Cadillac SRX crossover SUV with paper dealer plates fleeing the area. Six of those vehicles were stopped Wednesday night, after the Arco robbery, and police say Miles was driving one of those vehicles that were stopped.
