Car Goes Over Freeway In Deadly Crash Near Pyramid Lake
CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) — Officials say a car went off the side of the freeway near Pyramid Lake killing at least one person.
Four other people were critically injured. Late Sunday, the CHP said the four were between the ages of 4 and 22.
The unidentified person who died -- a 57-year-old female -- was declared dead at the scene, according to Gordon Spencer reporting in Sky2.
The accident occurred just west of the southbound 5 Freeway. The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m.
The car -- a 2010 Chevy Malibu -- ended up about 100 feet off the freeway down a ditch.
Spencer said no skid marks were visible so it appears the driver just lost control of the vehicle.
CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
The southbound 5 Freeway is "impacted heavily" by the crash, Spencer said. Traffic was backed up for about eight miles, nearing Pyramid Lake.
