Body Found In Car During Routine Patrol In Canyon Country

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — A homicide investigation is underway after a body was discovered Sunday inside a vehicle in Canyon Country.

A Santa Clarita Sheriff's deputy was on routine patrol in the area of Golden Valley Road and Robert Lee Parkway around 9:30 a.m. when he observed a blue Honda Accord illegally parked on the shoulder.

The deputy stopped to conduct an investigation of the vehicle, according to a department spokesperson.

During his investigation, the deputy conducted an inventory search of the vehicle, in preparation for a tow, and discovered a man deceased inside the vehicle. Reports indicate the body was found inside the trunk.

The car was towed to the coroner's office later Sunday.

Deputies say it is too soon to say if foul play was involved.

"Obviously it's suspicious having a vehicle parked on the side of the road with a male adult deceased inside but we just don't know cause of death. And we don't know if it's criminal or non-criminal at this point," Lt. Steve Jauch said.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), by texting "TIPLA" plus your tip to CRIMES (274637) or by using the website.
