Community Rallies Around Family Of Marine Killed In Nepal Helicopter Crash
WILDOMAR (CBSLA.com) — Members of the VFW hall in Wildomar learned Friday that the wreckage of a missing military helicopter in Nepal with six Marines on board had been found.
Michael Sheehan, a veteran, says City Council notified members that a Murrieta man, Eric Seaman, was on the flight.
"He volunteered with the service, so that makes him a hero automatically," he said.
Family friends posted a picture of the Marine online at #prayersforEric.
The Marines were providing help in Nepal after the recent earthquakes when the chopper disappeared Tuesday.
Military officials confirmed Friday that wreckage from the helicopter was found, along with three bodies.
Marine Lt. Gen. John Wissler said: "Because of the nature of the wreckage, it is unlikely there are any survivors at this time."
A family member told CBS2/KCAL9 News earlier this week that Seaman was deployed overseas and was planning to come home soon.
On Friday, Seaman's brother asked the media for privacy.
Members of the Wildomar VFW hall say Seaman graduated from Lake Elsinore High School.
VFW members want Seaman's family to know they are here for them.
Timothy Underdown, the VFW Men's Auxiliary president, said: "We'll be there for the family. We'll be there for any support."
