Metrolink To Offer Free Rides To Commuters During 'Bike To Work Week'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials Thursday announced free rides will be offered to commuters who travel on-board Metrolink trains with a bicycle during Bike to Work Week.

Authorities explained free rides will be offered from Monday to May 15 in support of the nationwide event that urges commuters to ride to work through an alternative form of travel.

Officials explained each rider must stay with their bicycle for the duration of the trip. The free ride will be limited to one person per bike.

According to Metrolink officials, free rides will also be offered for commuters who travel with bicycles on Metro rail or bus on May 14 only.

Any commuters who travel on Metrolink trains for free during the remainder of the week will be required to use a TAP card when transferring to Metro rail or bus.

In past years, Metrolink offered free rides on Bike to Work Day only. This is the first year that the offer has been extended through the entire week.

Officials expect the Bike Cars to be in high demand next week as more cyclists will take advantage of the free ride.

If the train is unable to accommodate additional bikes, commuters will be asked to take the following train or to find a different means of transportation.

National Bike Month was established in 1956, and is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists.
