Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Tense Standoff In Orange County
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man who was suspected of making criminal threats led police on a brief pursuit Sunday before keeping them at bay during a standoff in Orange County.
The pursuit of a red SUV, which proceeded through three cities, came to an end at City Dr. and Chapman, near a courthouse.
At that point, officers set up behind the vehicle with weapons drawn, and the suspect was not complying with instructions, remaining inside his vehicle. At least one K-9 unit was present on scene.
The suspect vehicle was parked on a sidewalk, directly in front of a barrier.
The suspect was wanted for criminal threats with a firearm, and had been driving erratically throughout the pursuit. Investigators had gone to the suspect's home in Irvine earlier on Sunday, after the suspect had reportedly threatened a woman with the firearm at her home in Tustin.
The pursuit originated from the suspect's Irvine home.
Tustin police and Santa Ana police were both involved.
A SWAT team arrived on the scene as the standoff continued into the evening. The buildings in the immediate vicinity of the standoff were in lock-down Sunday evening.
The chase began just before 5:30 p.m., officials said. The man was taken into custody about three hours later.
KCAL9's Erica Nochlin said the man was bitten by a K-9 officer when he was being uncooperative while being arrested.
The man, identified as Taylor Daniel Hall, reportedly made the threats with a firearm against the mother of his children, Nochlin reporterd.
