Man Suffered 2nd & 3rd-Degree Burns In Silver Lake House Fire
SILVER LAKE (CBSLA.com) — A man was in serious condition Friday after a house fire in Silver Lake.
The fire was reported just before 5:15 a.m. in the 1600 block of Micheltorena Street, officials said.
"It looks like what he had here was a slow smoldering fire that's been burning throughout the night," Battalion Chief Jamie Moore said.
The one occupant, a 25-year-old man, was alerted by smoke alarms, exited the unit and contacted 911.
"Once again, this is a huge testimony to the importance of working smoke alarms," Moore said.
The victim suffered second and third-degree burns to his hands and was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
It took 47 firefighters approximately 19 minutes to knock down the flames.
The fire was contained to only one unit, although there was a significant amount of smoke.
The cause and damage estimate were not available.
