Galaxy Goalie Brian Perk Has Ankle Surgery, Out For Season

CARSON (AP) — LA Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Perk will miss the rest of the MLS season after undergoing surgery on his injured left ankle.

The defending MLS Cup champions also signed goalkeeper Trey Mitchell on Friday.

Perk was slated to be the Galaxy's third-string goalie behind Jaime Penedo and Brian Rowe this season before he dislocated and broke his left ankle.

The veteran backup has made just seven starts in five seasons with the Galaxy, including a victory and a draw early last season. The UCLA product also has played for the Galaxy's reserve team in the United Soccer League.

Mitchell played the past two seasons at Cal State-Dominguez Hills, making 20 starts. The Galaxy's training complex and StubHub Center stadium are on the school's campus south of Los Angeles.
