Driver Allegedly Under The Influence Of Drugs Accused Of Causing Fiery Death On 405

CARSON (CBS:A.com)  —   Officials said a man driving under the influence of drugs caused a deadly crash on the 405 Freeway in Carson Saturday morning.

The victim of the crash was identified as a 31-year-old Long Beach man. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officials said the victim was rear ended by a 23-year-old Harbor City man who was driving a 2013 Toyota northbound on the freeway when he slammed into a 2000 Isuzu a little after 6 a.m. Saturday, according to CHP.

The impact caused both vehicles to veer to the right. The Isuzu veered off the road and crashed into a tree. The vehicle immediately became engulfed in flames, according to a CHP statement.

The victim's name will be released pending notification of next of kin, county coroner's Lt. Fred Corral said.

The Toyota driver continued out of control in a northeast direction crossing through the right shoulder where it struck a posted information sign and electrical pole.

The vehicle then veered to the left in a northwest direction, where it crossed all lanes of traffic and struck the concrete center divider wall.

The condition of the motorist was not immediately known, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.

The Toyota driver was later booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to the CHP statement.
