2 Plain-Clothes Officers Wounded After They're Fired On In Florence Area

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Two plain-clothes LAPD officers were injured during a shooting Sunday, authorities said.

Gordon Spencer reported from Sky2 that the incident took place just west of the intersection of 65th Street and Broadway. Police tape was set up and a perimeter search was under way.

The police perimeter was measured at six to seven blocks.

LAPD Sgt. Cory Meisner said the officers, who were believed to have been injured by gunfire, evidently suffering graze wounds, were in stable condition, and are expected to fully recover.

SWAT, armored vehicles and airships were present in the area, aiding in the search.

Police on Sunday evening told KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo that two plain-clothes officers were in a car.

A group of men fired on them, authorities said. The police returned fire.

Police don't know if any of the suspects were wounded in the incident.

"We have to look more into the motive and the circumstances," LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said. "These officers, as I said, they did sustain minor injuries, and this is a currently active tactical scene."

They're asking residents to shelter in place.

Several people were detained at the scene for questioning. Two more suspects are being sought, police said.

Police continued to arrive and surround the area well after 11 p.m.
