Three Dog Night Keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon Dead At 67

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP)  —  Jimmy Greenspoon, the keyboardist for legendary rock band Three Dog Night, has died.

He was 67.

Greenspoon's agent, Chris Burke, says he died Wednesday of cancer at his home in North Potomac, Maryland.

The LA-born keyboardist joined the rock band in 1968 and had been working with them until last October, when he took a medical leave of absence to pursue treatment for metastatic melanoma.

Greenspoon and TDN co-founder Danny Hutton started the group in 1968.

They had 21 Billboard Top 40 hits and 12 gold albums between 1969 and 1975.

The group is best known for their 1960s and 1970s hits "Joy to the World," ''Mama Told Me Not to Come" and
"Black and White." They're one of a few groups that charted three #1 songs in the US with three different lead singers -- "Joy to the World" (Chuck Negron), "Mama Told Me Not To Come" (Cory Wells) and "Black and White" (Hutton.)
