Harlington's Rose Rallies To Take $100K Las Flores Stakes At Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Harlington's Rose rallied from off the pace to win the $100,000 Las Flores Stakes for older fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length Sunday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Harlington's Rose ran six furlongs in 1:09.64 and paid $12, $5 and $3 for her first graded stakes victory.
Meinertzhageni took the lead at the top of the stretch before settling for second and returning $6 and $3. Even-money favorite Global Hottie was another head back in third and paid $2.60 to show for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.
Harlington's Rose wheeled three-wide turning into the stretch to gradually inch away from Meinertzhageni inside the sixteenth pole.
"You can put her in any spot and she's definitely a good horse," said Talamo, who's ridden in her last four starts, beginning with a win in the Kalookan Queen Stakes on Dec. 28. "I was able to save some ground on the turn and she came out and just blasted off."
The victory, worth $60,000, increased Harlington's Rose's career earnings to $371,040, with four wins in 21 starts.
