Operation Shower A Success For 40 Military Moms-To-Be

PACIFIC PALISADES (CBSLA.com) — Forty local military moms-to-be were treated to a group baby shower thrown Tuesday by the PGA and emceed by actress and model Molly Sims.

Operation Shower, a group baby shower for active-duty service members or the spouses of deployed members of the Naval Base Ventura County, Camp Pendleton and other area military installations, was held Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club during the PGA tour's 2015 Northern Trust Open.

One of the mothers includes April Riley, who is pregnant with her third child, a baby boy due in mid-May, just one week after her husband is due to return from his deployment.

"We're crossing our fingers he's here for the birth; it could turn out, depending on how everything goes, that he's here right after," Riley said.

Riley is used to handling the babies on her own. Her husband was deployed during the first seven months of her 2-year-old daughter's life.

"She was born on Friday, Jan. 11, in the evening. My husband was able to be there and then left on noon on Saturday, the very next day," she said.

Operation Shower provided a catered lunch, decadent desserts and a shower in a box for each guest, filled to the brim with baby gear and clothing.

"The pampering part of its really fun, but at the same time the deeper part of it is just knowing that there's so many other people that support you," Riley said.
