Fullerton Man Accused Of Breaking Into Newport Beach Home, Stealing Car

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A Fullerton man is suspected of breaking into a Newport Beach home while the residents are home and stealing a car.

Keith Richard Freeman, 32, was arrested Sunday about 12:30 p.m. after the Newport Beach Police Department received a tip that a stolen Toyota Camry was seen near the victims' home, officials said.

Police say Freeman stole the car from a home in the 500 block of Via Lido Nord. The burglary, which was classified as a "hot prowl" because the residents were home at the time, happened Jan. 31, when a suspect entered through a basement window, removed a car key from the kitchen counter and stole the car, which was parked on the street.

Other than the car, nothing else was taken during the burglary, police said.

The next night, the residents reported more "suspicious activity" at their home, leading investigators to believe that the suspect was still in the area.

Following his arrest Sunday, investigators interviewed Freeman and subsequently arrested him for stealing the car, police said. Detectives will be requesting more charges for the residential burglary.

Investigators recovered all of the personal property that was stolen along with the car, except an iPhone which is still outstanding.

Freeman is being held without bail.
