Student Driver Narrowly Misses Patient When Car Plows Into Doctor's Office

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An Orange County woman just barely escaped disaster when a car smashed into the doctor's office where she was sitting.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Friday at Main Street and Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach.

"Thank God I didn't pick room #1," patient Javonah Kahakbaz told CBS2/KCAL9's Stacey Butler.

Police say the car stopped inches from where she sat in an adjoining room talking to her doctor.

Her family told Butler the power of prayer is what saved her life. Kahakbaz's mother says she asks God every day to protect her family. Today, she believes her prayer was answered.

"I definitely feel like I was protected," Kahakbaz said. "It could've been me. If they had gone through the wall any further they would have hit me."

Police say a teen driver was behind the wheel and his mother was in the passenger seat.

He apparently had just received his Learner's Permit that same day.

"He was pulling into a parking spot and his foot slipped off the brake. He hit the gas pedal," said Capt. Steve Hess of the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
