Arrest Made In Jurupa Valley Road Rage Beating Death

JURUPA VALLEY (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities have made an arrest in the road rage beating death of a man that occurred in Jurupa Valley earlier this month.

Officials released a composite sketch of the suspect last Sunday.

This Sunday evening, officials confirmed to CBS2 and KCAL9 that an arrest had been made but provided no information about the suspect -- his name or when he was arrested.

Last weekend, friends and relatives of the victim pleaded for the public's help to nab the suspect.

The victim's sister said, "We just want this person caught because people like that don't need to be on the street."

The suspect was described as a Latino in his 30s. He was reportedly driving a Jeep Liberty in either beige, tan or silver.

The road rage incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, where Avenue Juan Bautista and Skyview Road meet in Jurupa Valley.

Several people called 911, but by the time deputies arrived both motorists had left the scene.

During the exchange, Jerry Lakes, 55, a Jurupa Valley man, was badly injured. He checked himself into a hospital several hours later, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

"Something about [being hit] over head, knocked him down, and broke his glasses," according to Lakes' sister, Marcia. She said her brother was too weak to fight anyone -- he had undergone dialysis for years.

The victim had a 24-year-old daughter.
